A story of standing on your own, while never truly standing alone. Strength lies in independence, yet is shaped through connection.
For Fall Winter 2017–2018, Jan Boelo explores the balance between independence and connection. A collection shaped around the moment of standing on your own, while realising that no one ever truly exists in isolation. The silhouettes convey strength and autonomy, with a clear and confident presence. At the same time, a certain softness runs through the collection, expressed through layering and movement, suggesting the subtle ways in which people remain connected to one another.
This collection marks a shift within the label, where elements from couture are translated into a more accessible, wearable wardrobe. Designs rooted in earlier couture pieces are reinterpreted through softer materials and a stronger focus on everyday wear, without losing their distinctive character.
At its core, the collection reflects the tension between the individual and the collective. The women and men within this narrative are self-reliant, yet never detached from their surroundings.
This duality is visible throughout the collection in the way shapes interact. Strong, close-to-the-body silhouettes are combined with more relaxed and enveloping forms, creating a sense of both protection and exposure. The layering of garments reflects how identity is formed, not as something isolated, but as a result of relationships, influences and shared experiences.

The collection brings together comfort and structure in a natural way. Soft knitwear and fluid outerwear create a sense of ease, while more tailored pieces introduce definition and strength. Leather elements add a sharper edge, yet remain flexible and wearable within the overall silhouette.
Materials are chosen for both their tactile quality and their functionality, allowing the garments to move effortlessly with the body. The finish remains refined and considered, staying true to the signature of the label.

Rather than presenting the collection through a traditional runway show, Fall Winter 2017–2018 was introduced in a showroom setting for international buyers.
This approach reflects the more commercial direction of the collection, offering a wardrobe that is immediate and wearable, while maintaining a strong design identity.
Several pieces within the collection define its balance between independence and connection.
Oversized knitwear plays a central role, wrapping the body in a way that feels both protective and effortless. These softer, more voluminous shapes are contrasted by narrow leather trousers and close-fitting silhouettes, which introduce a sense of control and precision.
Layered looks further emphasise this dialogue. Coats, cardigans and fluid garments are worn over more structured pieces, allowing each look to shift between strength and ease. The interplay between these elements creates a wardrobe that feels both grounded and adaptable, reflecting the complexity of the wearer.

Fall Winter 2017–2018 marks a shift towards a more wearable and expression of the label. Couture influences remain present, but are translated into a commercial wardrobe that feels more immediate and accessible.
