Elgon Safaris Uganda

Discover East Africa with Elgon Safaris Uganda: A Unique Travel Experience

If you’ve ever dreamed of an authentic and unforgettable journey through East Africa, Elgon Safaris Uganda is the name to remember. Since my first collaboration with Freddy in 2018, Elgon Safaris has surprised me time and again with their personalised approach, in-depth knowledge of the region and ability to take me to places I would never have discovered otherwise. From bustling local villages to pristine nature reserves, every trip with Elgon Safaris is an adventure you never forget.

Freddy and his team: The Faces Behind Elgon Safaris

Elgon Safaris is much more than a travel company. It is Freddy and his dedicated team who add a personal touch to the trips. Freddy, a born organiser with a big heart, is not only a guide but also a friend. His passion for nature, culture and sharing unique experiences shines through in everything he does. Together with the rest of the team, he makes sure you feel welcome from the first moment and that each trip fits your needs exactly.

More than a Safari: A Dive into Local Culture

What makes Elgon Safaris truly unique is their focus on authenticity. Sure, you can go on a classic game drive with them in parks like Queen Elizabeth or Murchison Falls, but they go further. Freddy and his team take you to local villages like Nakaloke, where you experience the hospitality of the Bagisu tribe. On one of my trips, we visited a school in Mutufu, to visit the JUC Foundation, an inspiring project that focuses on education and care for vulnerable children.where children proudly showed off the results of their new projects.

You sense during these meetings that Elgon Safaris has a real connection with the communities in the region. By travelling with them, you contribute to the local economy and support initiatives that make communities stronger.

Adventures in the Wilderness

But let’s not forget the spectacular wildlife. With Elgon Safaris, you get access to places the average tourist never gets to. During a morning in Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, we left early, with nothing more than a thermos of coffee and a healthy dose of curiosity. Led by guide Jacob, we saw rare animals like the Roan Antelope and majestic ostriches. The tranquillity and vastness of the landscape were almost meditative. We were literally the only ones in the entire wildlife park!

Another trip took us to Kidepo Valley National Park, where the vast savannahs and distant views towards South Sudan and Kenya were breathtaking. Freddy’s knowledge of birds and animals added an extra dimension to the trip. His eyes are so good that before you even realise it, he has already spotted the animals. From tracking tracks in one of the National Parks to spotting a shoebill near the swamps of the Nile-delta, you feel part of a bigger picture.

Loporokocho: A Dream in Construction

One of the most extraordinary projects Freddy and I are working on is developing a safari lodge in Pian Upe, called Pian Upe Basecamp. During several of my working trips, we have brainstormed and fantasised about it several times. And then the ultimate opportunity presented itself: we had the chance to buy a piece of land in Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve.

Later on, during one of my own visits, we got to work on laying access roads, planting trees and building a shed for local workers. It is inspiring to see how the community comes together to make a vision a reality. These kinds of projects make travelling with Elgon Safaris extra special; you are not just a visitor, but a participant in the growth of the region. I will also post several updates here later on the developments of this joint project in Pian Upe.
